The Tearsmith: A Heartfelt Coming-of-Age Story( My Honest review)

The Tearsmith is an Italian teen Romance film which strikes at the very core of its viewer’s heart. The film is based on the bestselling novel by Erin Doom and it also follows the journey of Nica and Rigel, two teenage orphans who find comfort and possible deeper connection in the presence of each other amidst the harsh realities of their childhood. Let’s dive deep and perform an in-depth analysis of this film.

Strong Points:

  • Emotional Core: This film perfectly shows its viewers how is it like to grow in an orphanage. The two-protagonist having different wishes like Nica’s urge for finding a family and Rigel’s internal struggles resonates with the viewers. The growing bond between them feels genuine and also adds a heartwarming tone to the film.
  • Touch of Mystery: The legend of the Tearsmith, a figurine who crafts anxieties and fears, adds a touch of fantasy and curiousness. Well, this element is not the centre of the plot point but it definitely adds a whimsical tone which sets the orphanage apart.
  • Solid Performances: the young performers did a fantastic job in bringing the lead characters to life. Nica’s weakness and vulnerabilities whereas Rigel’s strong internal struggles are perfectly acted, making their connection more and more believable.  

Weaker Points:

  • Predictable Storyline: The main romance of this film follows a very familiar path and viewers can easily anticipate many plot developments.
  • Limited Exploration of the Tearsmith Legend: The curious yet interesting concept of the Tearsmith feels kind off underutilized. While it perfectly serves as a background, but it wouldn’t have hurt if there were any deeper exploration of this intriguing element.

Overall:

If you are looking for a sweet yet sentimental romantic film for a perfect cozy night in then “The Tearsmith” should be your go to film. It perfectly delivers a relatable story about friendship, love and hardships of growing up. While the plot might not surprise experienced viewers, but the emotional core and strong performances by the cast makes this film a must watch.
