The Good:

  • Intense Premise: The overall premise of this series is intensely creepy. The body snatching parasitic aliens adds layers of creep into the story. The series also does a fantastic job in building suspense of who might be infected.
  • Visually Stunning: This series contains stunning visuals. The special effects depicting the parasitic transformations are impressive, truly creating an unsettling atmosphere.
  • Action-Packed: Parasyte: The Grey contains some real adrenalin filled action sequence which is perfectly choreographed.
  • Modern Twist: Being a remake, this series introduces modern touches, keeping the overall story relevant for new audiences.

The Not-So-Good:

  • Familiar Territory: If you have already seen the 2014 Japanese adaptation (Parasyte: The Maxim) or have read the original manga, then this series might seem predictable.
  • Character Development: As mentioned earlier the series is loaded with action sequences, and while doing so its kind off overshadowed the character development. It can take loads of time to emotionally connect with the characters at deeper levels.
  • Korean Horror Style: It’s an early warning to all those viewers out there who are not familiar with the Korean Horror style as some scenes might feel a bit more melodramatic than usual.

Overall:

Parasyte: The Grey is a spectacular sci fi horror series with brilliant visuals, loaded with action sequence and gripping premise. However, this might not feel very different if you are habituated with the original source material. Overall if you are looking for a fresh take on alien invasion with a Korean twist added to it then “Parasyte: The Grey” is definitely a must watch. But if you are a fan of  deep character Psychology, then you might rethink your options.
